Neil Gaiman’s ‘Sandman’ Lands Huge Series Deal Between Netflix and Warner Bros. TV

Image
Studios have been trying to turn Neil Gaiman ‘s acclaimed Vertigo comic book Sandman into a feature film for a long time. The earliest attempts stretch back all the way to the 1990s while the most recent try from New Line Cinema just happened a few years ago. Now, in the wake of the shuttering of the Vertigo arm at DC Comics, a new deal has sprouted to create a Sandman TV series between Netflix and Warner Bros. Television. The Hollywood Reporter has word of the Sandman TV series in the works. An episode count hasn’t been determined, but apparently the deal for the series comes with a hefty, unknown pricetag that makes it the most expensive TV series DC Entertainment has ever produced. Wonder Woman scribe Allen Heinberg will be writing and working as showrunner while author Neil Gaiman will executive produce along with David Goyer . The latter two had recently been part of New Line’s attempts to turn the comic into a movie. If you’ve never encountered Neil Gaiman’s Sandman co

Image
Brad Anderson , director of  Session 9 ,  The Machinist and more dark, brooding films, is taking on something considerably lighter. His new film  In Search of Captain Zero is based on the true story of a surfer who sold all his possessions and headed off to find his missing friend, who had vanished somewhere in Central America. Cool Stuff: Incredible ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ Art Show At Gallery Nucleus

Image
The licensing agreement between Disney and Sony over Spider-Man means that Disney makes the majority of the merchandising sales, which gives no incentive for Sony to create cool merchandise for the Spider-Man films. This is a shame, especially with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse , which was my favorite film of 2018. Thankfully Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles has teamed with Grey Matter art to present an official tribute exhibition for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse . What that means is that some cool original art and collectible prints have been produced for this fantastic film. We attended the grand opening of the “What’s Up, Danger? The Into the Spider-Verse Tribute Show” on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the gallery, and have video and photos from the show. Also, find out how you can get your hand on some of these impressive pieces of art. Video: What’s Up, Danger? Liam Hemsworth to Star in Quibi Action-Thriller Series

Image
Liam Hemsworth and Quibi  – two names that are sure to immediately pique your interest. But a Liam Hemsworth Quibi series is what we’re going to get, even if we’re not sure what that means. Hemsworth, the star of  The Hunger Games and other hits like… Independence Day: Resurgence , is the latest high-profile star to join the increasingly impressive roster behind Quibi, the Jeffrey Katzenberg-founded short form content streaming platform. Hemsworth will be starring in an as-yet-untitled action-thriller series. After you get  Steven Spielberg to join your team, everyone else is just downhill from there. But Hemsworth will surely bring in the younger demographic that Quibi is trying to target with his lead role in an as-yet-untitled action-thriller series for the streaming platform. Variety broke the news that Hemsworth has been cast in this thriller series, which “explores the limits of how far someone would go to fight for their life and their family.” Here is the synopsis via V

Valerie Pachner in New US Trailer for 'The Ground Beneath My Feet'

Image
"Everyone makes mistakes." "Not you." Strand Releasing has debuted the official US trailer for acclaimed Austrian film The Ground Beneath My Feet , also titled Der Boden unter den Füßen in German (which translates exactly to the English title). This premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in competition earlier this year, and has played at a few other international festivals. This new film from filmmaker Marie Kreutzer is "taut psychological thriller reminiscent of Repulsion ", about a businesswoman who struggles to keep herself grounded while always on the go trying to manage clients. Valerie Pachner (who also headlines Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life ) stars as Lola, along with Pia Hierzegger , Mavie Hörbiger , Michelle Barthel , Marc Benjamin , Dominic Marcus Singer , and Meo Wulf . I caught this film at Berlinale and it's very good, a brutally honest look at how the business life can swallow people up and suck all the life out of them. Here&

Full Trailer for 'The Game Changers' Doc About Vegan Bodybuilders

Image
"This is going to wake a lot of people up." A trailer has arrived for the documentary The Game Changers , which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018. The film is about athletes and body-builders who have switched to a plant-based diet (basically vegan, but that word can scare people away so they don't like to use it). Not only does it challenge the belief that you must eat meat to be strong, but it uses science and actual evidence to show that plant-based diets can lead to better health and better performance overall. " The Game Changers will introduce the world to elite athletes, special ops soldiers, visionary scientists, cultural icons, and everyday heroes. Each on a mission to create a seismic shift in the way we eat and live." The film is executive produced by James Cameron, and features Arnold Schwarzenegger talking about his experiences, along with many other athletes, celebrities, body-builders, doctors, and strength champions. This Week In Trailers: Memory: The Origins of Alien, Free Meek, Inna De Yard, All or Nothing: The Carolina Panthers, Nekrotronic

Image
Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? This week, we dive into the history of a cinematic classic, find out that reggae is more than just Bob Marley , watch CTE in action, nitpick a schlocky B-Movie, and get to know Meek Mill. Inna De Yard When it comes to reggae, the latest from Peter Webber ( Girl With A Pearl Earring ) just might be the comprehensive look at the subject. Inna De Yard is a joyous, vibrant film set against a backdrop of the lush green mountains of Jamaica, that sees a superstar group of reggae legends gather to record a new album of infectious hits in an unplugged style that harks back to their roots. The musicians include Ken Boothe, Winston McAnu
