Berlinale 2020: French Documentary 'Little Girl' is Inspiringly Beautiful

Image
This is one of the most beautiful documentaries I have ever seen. Without a doubt. I need to start with that statement. Everyone's personal definition of what is "beautiful" is different, but I think this is one time we can all agree that this film is objectively beautiful . Little Girl is yet another festival film that I can't get out of my head, and will likely never forget, for a number of beguiling reasons. The way the filmmakers tell this story so sensitively, with so much care and with so much integrity and so much reassurance, is part of it. But it's also just a staggering film about one young girl who is beautiful inside and out. And the filmmakers are telling her story so that we can learn from her, so that we can push society forward by learning to evolve our compassion. And push us to step away from toxic stereotypes that have plagued this planet for far too long. Directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Lifshitz (of other award-winning documentaries

Noah Schnapp in Official Trailer for Young Aspiring Chef Drama 'Abe'

Image
"You are mixing 'fusion' with 'confusion'." Blue Fox Entertainment has unveiled the trailer for a fun family film titled simply Abe , which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year in the Sundance Kids section. Abe is a 12-year-old boy from Brooklyn, an aspiring chef who is half-Israeli, half-Palestinian. He decides to cook a meal to unite his mixed family, but everything goes wrong. Surprise, surprise. Starring talented young actor Noah Schnapp as Abe, and a full cast including Seu Jorge , Mark Margolis , Arian Moayed , Dagmara Dominczyk , Salem Murphy , Tom Mardirosian , Daniel Oreskes , plus Gero Camilo . It's rather nice to see Seu Jorge in this as a chef he look up to, smart casting for that role. And the food in here looks delicious. I want to eat it all! This also reminds me of the story of Chef Flynn . Get a taste. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Fernando Grostein Andrade's Abe , direct from Blue Fox's

Their revelations inspire believers but anger officials of both the Church and the secular government, who try to force them to recant their story. As word of their prophecy spreads, tens of thousands of religious pilgrims flock to the site in hopes of witnessing a miracle. Of course. Starring Stephanie Gil , with Joaquim de Almeida , Lúcia Moniz , Joana Ribeiro , Harvey Keitel , Goran Visnjic , and Sonia Braga . This looks especially cheesy, and made mostly for the faithful to feel the power. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Marco Pontecorvo's Fatima , direct from Picturehouse's YouTube : A powerf

‘Day of the Dead’ TV Series Dawning at Syfy with Straight-to-Series Order

Image
George A. Romero’s  Day of the Dead is finding new life – as a TV series. Syfy just gave a 10-episode straight-to-series order to a Day of the Dead TV show based on Romero’s film of the same name. While it shares the same title as Romero’s classic, the storyline is a bit different, focusing on six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead outbreak. Deadline says Syfy just ordered a  Day of the Dead show straight-to-series, and I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner. After all,  The Walking Dead – which owes  a lot to Romero’s zombie films – is a mega-hit, spawning numerous spin-offs , a forthcoming movie , and more. It was only a matter of time before someone decided to use Romero’s work to get in on that action. The series is described as “the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. This ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hung

‘Mulan’ Remake Features a New Recording of “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera

Image
Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Mulan  may not share a lot in common with its animated counterpart, but one thing it will share is the best Disney song: Christina Aguilera ‘s “Reflection.” The ballad that the pop singer recorded for the 1998 Disney movie (and which subsequently helped launch her career) was the sweeping centerpiece for the film and remains one of its most iconic songs. But while fans may gripe over Mulan not being a musical, they will at least get the chance to hear a new version of “Reflection” recorded by Aguilera herself. During a performance at her Las Vegas residency Xperience (via CBR ), Aguilera announced that she recorded a new version of “Reflection” along with some “new material” for the live-action remake of  Mulan . “The live-action Mulan is coming out by the way,” she told the crowd. “You have to go see it. ‘The Raid’ Remake Writer Once Pitched an R-Rated ‘The Punisher’ Movie to Marvel

Ever since  Jon Bernthal perfectly inhabited the vengeful antihero in Netflix’s  The Punisher , fans have been clamoring for the actor to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. It’s unlikely to ever happen, considering Disney’s family-friendly focus and the cancellation of Marvel and Netflix’s more mature superhero series. But that didn’t stop one pitch from trying to make it so. Writer Adam G. Simon , who pens the upcoming remake of Gareth Evans’ 2011 brutal martial arts action phenomenon  The Raid isn’t a remake anymore (which apparently ), is adding his voice to the crowd of those wishing for a Jon Bernthal  The Punisher outing with the revelation that he once pitched an R-rated  The Punisher movie to Marvel. Hans Zimmer Created a New Major League Soccer Theme, and Yes, it Rocks

Image
The ever-prolific Hans Zimmer took some time off from composing pulse-pounding scores for big blockbusters to record some music for…*checks notes*…Major League Soccer. Yes, that’s right, Mr. Zimmer is out here rocking the soccer (or  football , if you live anywhere other than America) world with a big, loud, kick-ass piece of music. I’m not a sports fan, and I have never felt the urge to watch a soccer game in my life. But even I have to admit this rocks. Hear the Hans Zimmer MLS theme below. Hans Zimmer MLS Theme Yep, that certainly sounds like some Hans Zimmer music. “It is an honor to create the new anthem for Major League Soccer as part of its 25th Season Celebration,” Zimmer says in the video above. “With this composition, I tried to give fans, and the players, a feeling of anticipation, drama, and excitement – everything that makes this game so unique and special.” In true Zimmer fashion, there’s a lot of propulsiveness here, and plenty of heavy beats, ominous electronic s
