‘The Godfather Part III’ Recut is a “Dream Come True” According to Diane Keaton

Image
The Godfather and  The Godfather Part II are often hailed as two of the best American movies ever made, but the same can’t be said for   The Godfather Part III . The sequel actually received fairly good reviews when it opened in 1990. It also did well at the box office and scored seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. But over the years,  Godfather Part III has become something of a punchline, with many zeroing in on the clumsy, strained performance of Sofia Coppola , playing daughter to Al Pacino ‘s Michael Corleone. Now, after years of negative feedback, director Francis Ford Coppola has gone back and recut the film into  Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone . Will this new cut fix the film’s notorious problems? According to co-star Diane Keaton , the answer is yes. Before we dive into this, I need to get something out of the way:  The Godfather Part III really isn’t  that bad. Is it as good as the first two films? Oh, lord, no.

‘Surface’: Gugu Mbatha-Raw to Star in Psychological Thriller for AppleTV+

Image
Gugu Mbatha-Raw , who you may know from The Morning Show and Beyond the Lights , is about to headline her own TV show. She’s set to star in Surface , a new psychological thriller for AppleTV+ which hails from creator Veronica West , who was one of the key people behind the cancelled-too-soon Hulu re-imagining of High Fidelity . Mbatha-Raw is settling into AppleTV+. She already plays a supporting role on The Morning Show for that streamer, and now she’s about to star in Surface , a new thriller that’s also being produced by Reese Witherspoon ‘s Hello Sunshine production company. Apple has handed out a straight-to-series order for the series, which is still otherwise entirely shrouded in mystery. West, whose other writing credits include Ugly Betty , Hart of Dixie , Chicago Fire ,  Bull , and the upcoming extension of Showtime’s Dexter , found a passionate audience with her recent spin on High Fidelity , but unfortunately the Disney-owned Hulu chose not to renew it for a second sea

Hugh Grant is Set to Star in a Netflix Mockumentary About 2020 From ‘Black Mirror’ Creator Charlie Brooker

Image
Hugh Grant has found his new niche playing the baddie. After shedding his rom-com leading man persona to play the flamboyant villain in  Paddington 2  (in what is arguably his best role to date), Grant is digging deeper into the dark roles that are being offered him, recently coming off playing the sociopathic antagonist of David E. Kelley’s HBO series,  The Undone . And he’s got one more under his belt, the actor teased, revealing that his next project will be a “mockumentary about 2020” from  Black Mirror creator  Charlie Brooker . In an interview with Vulture discussing the finale of  The Undone , Grant revealed that he already has his next gig lined up. And interestingly, it’s in keeping with his dive into the more unseemly roles since he’s made a hard left turn from romantic leading man to scene-stealing villain. Grant told the outlet that he will star in Charlie Brooker’s “mockumentary about 2020” as a “historian who’s being interviewed about the year”: “I’m doing a thing

‘Godmothered’ Stars Jillian Bell and Isla Fisher on the Responsibility of Leading a Girl-Powered Disney Adventure [Interview]

Image
Godmothered is built on an indelible premise: what if a fairy godmother ventures into our world to prove that we still need magic, only to discover that the little girl she set out to assist has grown into a jaded adult with a couple of kids and loads of emotional baggage? Like Enchanted before it, this film leans heavily on Disney iconography, often playfully poking and prodding it from a thoroughly modern perspective. But in the end, it reveals why fairy tales still continue to resonate – there’s a gentle post-modernism to Godmothered for sure, but it all comes down on the side of magic and why we all need a little bit of it in our lives. As Eleanor, the fish-out-of-water fairy godmother whose endless supply of pep often proves more powerful than her literal magical abilities, Jillian Bell proves that her scene-stealing comedic stylings remain razor-sharp even in family-friendly fare. And as Mackenzie, the single mother and reporter who finds her life turned inside out by Elean
