Incompetent goodfellas hunting down amateur hour homeboys. A fishing hook cast through the earlobe of an unsuspecting layman. A floatie made entirely of blow-up dolls. Unbridled bridesmaids snatching husbands up off the streets. Small town suspicious types boasting butcher knives. One-eyed maniacs slashing their way through sanctioned buffoonery. Explosions. Eviscerations. Beheadings. Ball-busting. Horse-bucking. Juice cartons slowly stroked a little too enthusiastically. This is "Sweetie, You Won't Believe It," and nothing can prepare you for its chaotic energy. Set on the day that his pregnant wife is scheduled to give birth, "Sweetie" follows Dastan (Daniar Alshinov), a financially struggling scrub who deals with his nagging spouse by ditching her to hang with the boys. Why Night Of The Living Dead Was Mired In Controversy After Release

Image
Over the years, George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" has been the subject of countless homages, full-on remakes, and critical analyses. In October 2021, a new animated version of it came to home media, and that's just one example of how it's the gift that keeps on shambling. Because its distributor forgot to add a copyright notice to it, Romero's original 1968 film is now in the public domain. It's also in the National Film Registry and has its place in history as well. "Night of the Living Dead" wasn't the first of its kind , but it was instrumental in jump-starting a new sub-genre of horror: the zombie movie. Romero looked to Richard Matheson's 1954 novel "I Am Legend" for inspiration, long before Will Smith ever fought Darkseekers in the loose film adaptation of the same book. Matheson's post-apocalyptic vampires became Romero's world-ending zombies, so you could almost say zombies are vampire offshoots -- th

Directed by Kenny Ortega, "Hocus Pocus" was a flop upon its original theatrical release but has since gained a cult following that's translated into strong home video sales and a surprise comeback at the box office in 2020. In the first film, Midler, Najimy, and Parker play a trio of witches who are inadvertently brought back from the dead when a foolhardy virgin called Max (Omri Katz) lights the Black Flame Candle on Halloween. The Medium Review: This Exorcism Movie Will Haunt You To Your Core [Telluride Horror Show 2021]

Image
There's a point in William Peter Blatty's incendiary 1971 horror novel "The Exorcist" when Father Karras asks Father Merrin what the purpose of possession might be -- if, according to their religion, a demon cannot touch a victim's will. Merrin considers this question, then thoughtfully replies:  "I think the demon's target is not the possessed; it is us ... the observers ... every person in this house ... I think the point is to make us despair; to reject our own humanity, Damien: to see ourselves as ultimately bestial; as ultimately vile and putrescent; without dignity; ugly; unworthy. And there lies the heart of it, perhaps: in unworthiness. For I think belief in God is not a matter of reason at all; I think it finally is a matter of love; of accepting the possibility that God could love us". Most people forget that Blatty wrote "The Exorcist" as a testament to the existence of Jesus Christ: a way to prove that Christianity is real

Everything We Know About Star Wars: A Droid Story So Far

Image
We have been downright lousy (and I mean that lovingly) with "Star Wars" stuff over the past few years, be it things that have already been released or the many projects that are in the works. It is a plentiful time for fans, that much is certain, but it can be easy for some things to slip through the cracks.  Such might be the case with "Star Wars: A Droid Story," a new animated adventure making its way to Disney+. For those who might have forgotten about this one, or those just looking to know more, we're here to go over everything we know about the latest story set in a galaxy far, far away. What Is A Droid Story? "A Droid Story" was initially announced during Disney's absolutely massive investor presentation in 2020. It was revealed as part of an unexpected avalanche of projects in every corner of the Disney empire, with Lucasfilm unveiling a huge number of things , including the upcoming "Rogue Squadron" movie, an "Ahsoka&q

Rust Producers Had Been Warned About First Assistant Director's Mixed Safety Record

Image
As police and reporters begin to piece together the events that led to a lethal shooting on the set of Alec Baldwin-led Western "Rust," it remains uncertain who was primarily to blame. However, crew members who previously worked with first assistant director Dave Halls say that they had previously flagged his poor safety track record to the movie's producers -- and that their warnings were ignored. Director of photography Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza were both hit by a bullet fired by Baldwin during rehearsals, with Hutchins sadly dying from her injuries. She is survived by her husband and nine year-old son. Accounts from crew members and other people with knowledge of the shoot have so far suggested that the shooting was not simply a freak accident, but the tragic end result of a production that had been cutting corners in terms of both budget and on-set safety protocols from the start. On the day of the incident, much of the camera department had staged a
