Groovy New Trailer for 'The Invisible Fight' - Kung Fu Monks Comedy

Image
"I'm going to be a monk." Kino Lorber has unveiled their official US trailer for the Estonian film known as The Invisible Fight , a martial arts comedy made by Estonian filmmaker Rainer Sarnet (also of the cult hit November ). This is finally set to open in US theaters in February, starting at the Alamo Drafthouse Lower Manhattan, with more cities to follow throughout March. It premiered at Locarno and played at Fantastic Fest and Sitges (where I caught up with it). The Invisible Fight is described as a satirical take on the martial arts film, artfully paying tribute to the genre's Chinese wuxia roots. Set in the 1970s, it's about an Estonian guard on the Soviet-Chinese border who, after surviving and watching a deadly attack, decides to become a monk but must continually prove along the way that he's capable of becoming the enlightened man that he set out to be. Starring Ursel Tilk as Rafael and Ester Kuntu , Kaarel Pogga , Indrek Sammul , Taimo Kõrvemaa

Official Trailer for True Crime Doc 'They Called Him Mostly Harmless'

Image
"He was definitely trying to stay anonymous." Max has revealed an official trailer for a true crime, mystery thriller documentary film titled They Called Him Mostly Harmless , available for streaming next month on Max after premiering at last year's Hampton Film Festival. Based on the Wired article about the "mostly harmless" hiker found dead in a tent in Florida in 2018, surrounded by food and cash, but no ID. Who was he? What really happened to him? True crime veteran Patricia E. Gillespie's new doc is a character-centric reimagining of the classic mystery. She explains: "I was drawn to this story because of its potential to help us think more deeply about what it means to live in the digital age. I hope we've made a film that manages to both honor the citizen detectives who worked tirelessly to identify the 'Mostly Harmless', while encouraging audiences to get involved in the issue of unidentified persons." Nolan's Time Flip Movie 'Tenet' Returns to Theaters on February 23rd

Image
¡niaga ti ecneirepxE! Warner Bros has announced that they are re-releasing Christopher Nolan's Tenet again in 2024, for one week only this February. Most of you will remember how hard they tried to turn this into a hit in late 2020 right at the start of the pandemic, but it didn't do so well at the box office back then. Time to try again. Tenet is a sci-fi action movie on a global scale, involving time travel and espionage. The gimmick involves a device that can reverse time, which powerful people want to manipulate for their gain. John David Washington stars with Robert Pattinson , Aaron Taylor-Johnson , Elizabeth Debicki , Kenneth Branagh , Clémence Poésy , Dimple Kapadia , Yuri Kolokolnikov , and of course Michael Caine . I wish this movie was better - even though I saw it a few times, it's one of my least favorite Nolan creations. Tenet will play again in 70mm and in IMAX starting February 23rd, 2024 . Infrared Junk - Official Trailer for Harmony Korine's 'Aggro Dr1ft' Film

Image
"I was born to kill." EDGLRD has revealed some footage for this infrared hitman film. Feast your eyes on the official trailer for Harmony Korine's Aggro Dr1ft , one of the stupidest films ever made. Yes, seriously. Even though I may hate it, this trailer is worth sharing just so you can see how bad it is in order to help save your time & money. Aggro Dr1ft premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival last year and I hated it - here's my full review . In this sensual experimental elegy by Harmony Korine, spellbinding infrared photography evokes a dreamlike portrait of a tormented assassin. It's shot in and presented entirely as infrared footage, with annoying, blaring sound and music that will make you want to drive right off a cliff... Starring Jordi Mollà and Travis Scott , who I am sure both regret participating in this utterly awful hitman project. It's so terrible it even features A.I. visuals that make most scenes uglier. Sinister Trailer for Dark Web Thriller 'DarkGame' Starring Ed Westwick

Image
"I expect your death to top the ratings." Gravitas Ventures has revealed the unsettling official trailer for a film titled DarkGame , a twisted horror thriller by director Howard J. Ford. Set for release in February on VOD if anyone wants to watch. A determined Portland detective is in a race against time to stop a twisted game show being broadcast on the dark web, where captives are forced to compete for their lives. The losers are executed via live broadcast. For the sadistic masked host, this is all part of his master plan to gain more ratings. Ed Westwick stars as Det. Ben Jacobs, with Andrew P. Stephen , Natalya Tsvetkova , Lola Wayne , Rose Reynolds , and Rory Alexander . This isn't the first movie about a death game broadcast online, there are tons of them already, and this definitely won't be the last either. This looks as exploitative and as gross as the game within it, with no real worthwhile meaning to consider, just depraved horror junk. //  Continue R

Sundance 2024: 'It's What's Inside' is a Totally Fresh Genre Invention

Image
THE talk of the town at this year's festival is the Midnight horror film It's What's Inside . I was lucky to attend the world premiere of this indie horror film at a screening starting at 11PM Friday night at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and it blew the roof off of the theater. Everyone loved it. No one there had any idea what they were about to see. It was shot in secret, everything about it was kept a secret, no one will want to tell you the secret. Which makes it kind of hard to talk about... I can vaguely talk around the idea of it and why I love it, without revealing any of what actually happens in it. Even if you aren't someone who cares that much about spoilers, trust me/us/everyone on this – you'll want to see it without knowing anything about "what's inside of it" until the lights go down and the film begins. It's a thrilling, hilarious, clever, raucous, ingenious sci-fi horror comedy from filmmaker Greg Jardin . Wait until you find o

Official US Trailer for Bas Devos' Peaceful Film 'Here' with Stefan Gota

Image
"I go places I've never been." The Cinema Guild has revealed an official US trailer for the indie Belgian film titled Here , the latest from acclaimed low-key filmmaker Bas Devos . This originally premiered at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival last year, earning great reviews. I caught up with it at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, before it went on to screen at TIFF, AFI Fest, NYFF, and others. Set in Brussels, the film revolves around a potential love story between a Romanian construction worker and a Belgian-Chinese doctorate student of moss, who cross paths just before the former is about to move back home. It's a very peaceful, calm, humble film with some slow moments that let the story breathe. It allows the narrative to take its time, to let it build in its own slow-paced way, much like the moss that Shuxiu is studying. Here stars only two people: Stefan Gota as Stefan and Liyo Gong as Shuxiu. I'll recommend seeking out this film if slow cinema is your jam.
