‘First Man’ Director Damien Chazelle & Neil Armstrong’s Family On Flag Flap: It’s Not A Political Statement

Damien Chazelle ’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man received good marks this week when it landed as the opening-night film at the Venice Film Festival. But not all saw it that way, with a small backlash brewing over the lack of a scene showing Armstrong’s planting of the American flag on the moon’s surface during his legendary 1969 moon landing. The flag appears several times during the movie, which stars Ryan Gosling as Armstrong, but not having the iconic flag-plant has… from Deadline https://ift.tt/2otzP7A

The Best, Craziest, and Bloodiest Movies from the Scary Movies XI Festival

Image
Another week, another horror film festival in the books. It’s barely been 14 days since my Fantasia Film Festival recap highlighted the scariest and most splendid programming notes of Montreal’s three-week-long shindig, but that didn’t stop New York City’s Scary Movies XI from happening. Each August, the Film Society of Lincoln Center spooks Manhattan with a week-long curation of Halloween season holdovers as a gift to genre fans. It’s not as flashy or up-all-night as such all-encompassing events like Fantastic Fest, but it provides noteworthy screenings in an accessible after-work style for even a Brooklynite like myself. When has more horror content ever been a bad thing? As we do here at /Film, I’ve come up with various superlatives that hit upon trends and highs from Scary Movies XI. “Best Actor,” “Worst ( Best ) Breakup,” a “THANK ODEN THIS GOT DISTRIBUTION” award, etc. And there were no shortage of nominees, either. With titles like Anna and the Apocalypse , Lords of Chaos , ...

Rumor: ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ May Feature Another Obscure Villain

Image
The rumor mill is at full throttle as   Spider-Man: Far From Home continues filming in the U.K. And while set photos and videos have hinted at the plot and characters of the upcoming Marvel film, the latest rumor actually spawns from a toy. A new villain toy, to be exact. Another  Spider-Man: Far From Home villain may be added to the potent mixture of multiple villains that the movie is already juggling. And die-hard fans of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man may recognize this baddie. Spider-Man has a truly impressive rogues gallery — so much so that Sony is trying to craft a whole cinematic universe revolving exclusively around Spidey’s villains. So you can’t fault the  Spider-Man movies for trying to stuff in as many villains as possible. That ultimately became the downfall of the notorious  Spider-Man 3 , which featured a total of three Big Bads. But  Spider-Man: Far From Home might just outdo that. Spider-Man: Far From Home  is rumored ...

Aretha Franklin’s Funeral: Bill Clinton Leads Who’s Who In Queen Of Soul Tribute

President Bill Clinton eulogized Aretha Franklin on Friday in an epic memorial service for the iconic soul singer, saying he was an “Aretha groupie” and playing her classic “Think!” into the microphone via his iPhone. “She lived with courage — not without fear, but overcoming her fears,” Clinton said during his remarks at Detroit’s packed Greater Grace Temple. “She lived with faith — not without failure, but overcoming her failures. She lived with power — not without… from Deadline https://ift.tt/2LI2Pl3
