Meet a Passionate Animal Lover in 'For the Birds' Documentary Trailer

Image
"I would die for them." Dogwoof has debuted an official trailer for the documentary For the Birds , which played at AFI Docs + the Sheffield Documentary Festival last year. The film is about a woman named Kathy, whose love for birds has changed her life – she lives with 200 pet chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. The film begins by profiling her battle with local animal rescuers, but then shifts into focusing on her marriage to her husband Gary - and how her love for these birds has taken a toll on her marriage and her well-being. I'm a big, big fan of documentaries about animals and people who love them and care for them (also see: Buddy or The Biggest Little Farm ), and this is right up my alley. Though I'm super nervous to see how this obsession has affected her so deeply, it looks a bit upsetting but still utterly compelling. Check it out below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Richard Miron's doc For the Birds , direct from YouTube : ...

Watch: Clever Dark Comedy Short 'Wyrm' Needs You to Kiss Someone

Image
"I like your black eye." A must watch short film - one of the best of the year so far. Wyrm is a short written and directed by Christopher Winterbauer , that originally premiered in 2017 and is now available online after playing on the festival circuit for a while. The nerdy-retro short is about a kid in school who must kiss someone in order to have his My.E.Q. Remote Monitoring collar removed. It's making fun of the feeling that you have to achieve some kind of romantic contact in order to progress in life. And while Winterbauer says Lanthimos's The Lobster was an inspiration, he did originally come up with the idea for this when he was 15 and afraid he was behind everyone else kissing a girl. Starring Reid Miller as Wyrm, with Azure Brandi , Skye Popov , Aidan Dorn Wallenstein , Davey Johnson . (And the voice of Bob Odenkirk .) There's some remarkably clever humor in this, plus the production design & everything else about it is outstanding. Thanks t...

Exclusive: ‘Django Unchained’ Director’s Cut Coming After Quentin Tarantino Finishes ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

Image
At 165 minutes, Quentin Tarantino ‘s Django Unchained already feels like an epic. And now, his grand and bloody revisionist western is about to become even more super-sized. The Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds director has confirmed to /Film that he is working on a director’s cut of the Oscar-winning film, which he intends to release after he has finished Once Upon a Time in Hollywood . Released in 2012,  Django Unchained  was nominated for five Oscars (winning Best Supporting Actor for Chistoph Waltz and Best Original Screenplay for Tarantino himself) and became the director’s highest grossing movie, with $425 million worldwide. However, it seems like Tarantino is not done tinkering with the film. Speaking with /Film to explain his recent decision to recut The Hateful Eight into a miniseries on Netflix, he told our own Chris Evangelista about his plans to release a Django Unchained director’s cut: “But for instance like take Django [Unchained], I’ve actually ...

Exclusive: Quentin Tarantino Tells Us How and Why He Created ‘The Hateful Eight’ Miniseries for Netflix

Image
A month ago, word arrived that an extended version of Quentin Tarantino ‘s 2015 Western  The Hateful Eight   would be arriving on Netflix. Many (including this writer) assumed this was going to be the Roadshow Cut – a cut that played in limited theatrical release, and was never released on home video. But that’s not what happened. Instead,  The Hateful Eight arrived on Netflix broken into a miniseries , consisting of four episodes. How, and why, did this happen? And was Tarantino involved? It turns out he was. The filmmaker curated and oversaw the new miniseries cut himself. Tarantino spoke to /Film exclusively about how the Hateful Eight Netflix miniseries came together. The filmmaker also spoke of a new director’s cut of another one of his films, and whether or not he’s going to make that rumored  Star Trek movie. So I guess my two big questions on this are how and why; how did this come about and how much input did you have into it? And what was the genesi...

Joe Russo Explains Some of the Confusing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Paradoxes

Image
It’s that time again. Time for the Russo Brothers to jaunt around explaining everything that happened in their new movie. The filmmakers went on a whirlwind tour after  Avengers: Infinity War , attempting to answer questions that movie raised. Now they’re doing it again with  Avengers: Endgame . In fairness, the new  Avengers film deals with some fairly complicated logistics, leaving some viewers scratching their heads. Immediate and major spoilers follow . Any time you have a movie dealing with time travel, you’re opening yourself up to a whole variety of questions and confusions. Since humans have yet to master time travel (and likely never will), the concept is a quandary, and whenever filmmakers employ it, some viewers can’t help but ask, “How the hell does any of this work?” During a recent Q&A ,  Endgame co-director Joe Russo did his best to address some of these questions. For instance, a question that gets raised in the film itself involves whethe...
